Privacy policy

This web version of NewsButton needs no account, and it does not collect, store, sell or share any of your personal information.

What is not collected

• Your name, email, phone number or any other identity
• A record of what you read
• Any cookie for advertising or tracking
• Any third-party analytics or tracking script

What stays in your browser

Only your colour choice (light, dark or system), and only in this browser, in `localStorage`. It is never sent anywhere. Clear your browser’s site data and it goes too.

Saved stories and notes do not exist in this web version. A list held in one browser’s storage does not work on your next device and is lost when site data is cleared, so those features are in the Android app only.

What the server does

Headlines are fetched by our server, not by your browser. That means the newsroom does not see your IP address — it sees only our server. Each source is asked at most once every ten minutes, however many readers arrive.

Apart from the newsrooms, the server connects to these two places only:

• नेपाल राष्ट्र बैंक — foreign exchange rates
• नेपाल सुनचाँदी व्यवसायी महासंघ — gold and silver rates

Pictures come straight from the publisher

Story pictures, though, load from the publisher’s own server straight into your browser — we do not re-serve them from ours. So when a picture loads, that publisher’s server receives ordinary network details (your IP address, for instance), which fall under their privacy policy rather than this one.

When you open a publisher’s site

Tapping any story opens it on the publisher’s own website. What happens after that is governed by their privacy policy, not ours.

Hosting

This site is hosted on Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel keeps ordinary server logs (IP address, browser name, which page was requested). Those logs exist to run the service; we do not link them to any person.

Changes

If this policy changes, this page is updated with the date.
